One week of Mysore and a weekend workshop at Urban Yoga Phoenix
Friday 10/19 • 6-8pm • Head, Shoulders, Knees & Toes
A fun, eye opening, challenging and game changing workshop for practitioners from all styles of Yoga! Come laugh and sweat with Krista as she delves into the physical exploration of the body through Yoga asana. How we hold our bodies up, move our head, maintain posture (or not), walk, sit, move….determines so much of how we feel in the body in which we live. Yoga practice alone does a great deal to improve posture, align the spine and musculature, our stance and more but that alone isn’t enough! Let’s look at how we can bring awareness, mindfulness and effort into how we live in and carry the body both ON and OFF the mat.
Saturday 10/20 • 10-12:00 • Jumping Through, Jumping Back
Jumping through & Jumping Back: Want to learn how to safely and gracefully execute vinyasas? We will explore using the bandhas, the lats, the core, body positioning, breathing, hands, head position and the pelvis in order to paint a full portrait of the art of jumping back and jumping through. The key to jump backs and jump throughs isn’t momentum, it isn’t about the length of your arms or the amount you weigh! Spend the afternoon with Krista learning how to skillfully jump back and through. Suitable for all levels.
Saturday 10/20 • 12:00-12:30 • Break
Saturday 10/20 • 12:30-2:30pm • Finding Strength & Stillness Through Balance
Spend the day exploring balancing asanas of primary and second series. From Utthita Hasta Pādāṅguṣṭhāsana, Bakāsana, Ṭiṭṭibhāsana and Pinca Mayūrāsana we will learn how to create stability in the body needed to acquire and maintain balance in postures that challenge us to tap into inner and outer strength. Be prepared to break a sweat, have fun, and work hard in this session with Krista as we explore the postures that teach us how to find and maintain balance both on and off the mat. Suitable for all levels.
Sunday 10/21 • 8:00-10:15am • Led Primary Series with Pranayama
This traditional Sanskrit counted class will explore the fundamentals of the Ashtanga Yoga Method in a led/guided classroom setting. This class is recommended for those already exposed to Ashtanga Yoga practice.
Sunday 10/21 • 10:15-10:45 • Break
Sunday 10/22 • 10:45-12:45 pm • Introduction to Second Series
The second series of the Ashtanga Yoga tradition is called Nadi Shodhana (nerve cleansing). The asanas of second series are comprised of backbends, powerful and strong balancing postures, hip openers and deep twists that thoroughly cleanse the nervous system. In this session we will explore the second series syllabus of asanas. Students currently practicing second series and beyond will gain greater understanding of the form and purpose of these postures and take their practice to another level. Students still working through primary will find tremendous inspiration for what comes beyond primary series. All students are welcome and all students will truly find a greater appreciation for this yoga method, the sequences of the series’ and a new found level of gratitude for their personal daily practice. It is highly recommended that all who attend have an established practice in the Ashtanga Yoga.
Sunday 10/21 • Lunch Celebration
